MLS & Liga Mx just release this week the Leagues Cup Bracket, as we all know this is an important cycle in North America, a new tournament is starting this year during the summer time, next July, Liga Mx and MLS will pause for one month, so all 47 clubs can face off in the only interleague tournament with real competitive stakes. This is a unique moment for the partnership between MLS and Liga Mx in their effort to increase the interest around the sports leading up to the most important tournament in the space of soccer that is the FIFA World Cup.
We would like to mention that this 50/50 joint venture between both leagues in North America will have a significant positive impact on the interest and participation in soccer in the region. A summer tournament will serve as a showcase event for the sport, attracting larger audiences and generating excitement among fans.
Leagues Cup will bring together all the teams from both leagues, creating a more competitive and exciting soccer environment. This can lead to more rivalries and meaningful matches that attract larger audiences and generate more interest in the sport. Fans from the US, Canada & Mexico will be able to see their favorite teams and players competing against each other in official matches, which can help to build excitement and engagement for the tournament.
This is when star are born, this tournament will be full of historic games that can serve as a platform for the development of new soccer stars. Young and emerging players will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on a larger stage, potentially leading to increased recognition and a call-up to the National team. This will help the grow of the talent pool of soccer players in the region, making soccer more competitive.
We have talked in the past about the value of community, this tournament will build a stronger soccer community in North America. Fans from both leagues will be able to come together to support their teams and enjoy the excitement of the tournament in the USA. The tournament will have the distinction that the teams will receive monetary compensation with every game they win, to support a special non-profit of their preference.
In the case of the USA, soccer is not the most important sport as it is in the rest of the world. Americans love to compete and be the best, the tournament can help to create new fans and supporters of soccer. This can help to expand the fan base of the sport, potentially leading to increased participation in youth soccer programs in the 3 countries involved, more players, better talent and a combination of economy within the region that is going to be unique to this area.
The moment for soccer in North America is now! The League Cup will set the precedent. In our personal opinion everyone in this region should support the initiative, in order to make it a better tournament that speaks up for our region, leagues, clubs, players, media and fans should come together to elevate the tournament to the highest potential.
